CalEli Gifts is a small independent, Edinburgh based company that I run out of our family home.
I was a Primary Teacher for 17 years but in 2016 decided to change career paths and follow my dream of running my own business.
For years I had struggled to find gifts for my sons (Callum and Elliot) with their names spelt correctly on them. I decided that I wanted to specialise in personalised gifts that could have any name or unique message on them.
Deciding on the name of my company was easy! I used some of the letters from my sons' names to form CalEli.
From personalised Christmas Tree decorations, CalEli Gifts is now selling over 1000 bespoke, personalised gifts for every occasion on their website. I personalise some items by hand and I have a team of engravers and publishers that I use to personalise everything else from wood to glass to ceramics to books.
I am particularly proud of my Highland Cow ornament that I designed myself.
I was delighted to be a finalist in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards for Scotland. Although I didn't win, it was a huge honour to beat hundreds of other people to get into the final. It also confirmed to me that my change in career has been a success!
